Syracuse, N.Y. (AP) - A federal court jury Thursday found a Muslim doctor guilty of running an illegal charity that defrauded donors and violated U.S. sanctions by sending money to Iraq.

After deliberating nearly a week, the jury convicted Dr. Rafil Dhafir on 59 counts relating to tax evasion and Medicaid fraud. He was acquitted of a charge of money laundering. Dhafir, 56, an oncologist from the Syracuse suburb of Manlius, will be sentenced June 20.
