Reporters Might Be Threatened, Quick, Arrest Somebody

This just in from the Reporters Without Borders website [emphasis added]:

30.01 - Italy: threatening letters sent to five Italian dailies A letter containing two bullets and a message with death threats was left at the headquarters of the Il Giornale newspaper on 11 January. It was addressed to former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, the newspaper’s owner, and ended with the words “Allah is great.” A letter containing a single revolver bullet was received on 28 January at the Northern League daily, La Padania. It was accompanied by a letter proffering threats against the Northern League’s leader, Umberto Bossi, and also ended with the words “Allah is great.”

The La Repubblica daily has reported on its website that it, too, received a letter containing a bullet and death threats yesterday. It was addressed to the newspaper’s managing editor, Ezio Mauro. Similar letters addressed to the managing editor of the Corriere della Sera, Paolo Mieli, and to the managing editor of the business daily Il Sole 24 Ore, also containing bullets and threatening messages, were intercepted during the night of 28 January at a mail sorting centre.

Reporters Without Borders voices its concern about these threats and urges the authorities to pursue investigations aimed at identifying those responsible.

Oh, I get it. When journalists feel threatened, they want an immediate investigation. When they don't, they want to sabotage ongoing, secret efforts by western governments (especially if the western government is headed by a Republican).

Well, I don't know. We don't want to rush into an investigation like a bunch of cowboys, now. Could take some time to make sure we aren't trampling any terrorists' rights here, y'know. Guess we could put Barney on it. Deputy Fife!
