Basic Propaganda 101

Sensationalized breathless headline for Reuters story: "U.S. soldiers' suicide rate in Iraq doubles in 2005" (actually, the rate in 2004 was 10.5 per 100,000. The 2006 rate of 19.9 per 100,000 is a bit short of "double," but few people with two brain cells to rub together expect truth and accuracy from Reuters - Adnan Hajj and the other fake/staged news events of the Israeli-Hizbullah war saw to that).

Money quote, buried deep, deep into the story:
While every suicide was one too many, Kiley said, the suicide rate among soldiers was lower than the average among civilians of the same age and gender.
Perspective: the suicide rate for young women 15-19 living in South India is 148 per 100,000.

Time it will take for the first blame-America-first lefty to accuse me of not caring about soldier suicides: a New York minute.
